Teaching

I am available for substitute work, short to medium term, in primary schools in Amsterdam and its surroundings. My goal is to give other teachers breathing space—helping them take a step back, reflect, and recharge.

Experience

I have been teaching full classes for 20 years, and for the last 8 years I’ve worked as a certified teacher. Some of the schools I’ve taught at include:

  • Peetersschool

  • 8e Montessorischool

  • International School of Amsterdam (Dutch teacher for NT2 children)

  • Karel Eykmanschool

  • Plesmanschool

From long-term placements, I’ve often received feedback that I am skilled at transforming a busy group into a cooperative one. In a short period of time, I can bring structure to the classroom.

I’m particularly strong in teaching Dutch grammar with the STAAL method, and can also train other teachers to use. My strengths include giving very clear assignments, paying attention to all students, and using the ADI model in my lessons.

I’m a flexible, solution-oriented teacher who creates meaningful lessons connected to the subject. And with my loud voice or quick energizers, I can get a class quiet very quickly! 😉

Why did I become a teacher

At first, I became a teacher because I didn’t know what else to do. Because of my undiagnosed ADHD, I had struggled and failed several studies, but deep down my goal was always to help others. My dream has always been to help people discover and reach their potential.

Even as a child, I wanted to support those who were struggling. I was insecure and often misunderstood, and I believe that if my teachers back then had responded with more understanding—instead of patchwork solutions—I would have grown up feeling more confident and secure. That experience shaped how I teach today. With structure, understanding, and openness, I help the whole group see how they can grow better together.

Now, I am a clear and structured teacher with a lot of passion for my work. I want my students to grow—not only in their subjects, but also in their lives.
